John Lorenzo Pelt, 85, passed away Thursday , January 7, 2016 at his home in Headrick, Oklahoma. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2 PM, Monday, January 11, 2016 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Richard Ainslie officiating. Burial will follow in the Headrick Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
Lorenzo Pelt was born May 19, 1930 to Ross and Lillian (Stanfield) Pelt in Garvin County, Oklahoma. He attended Farmers Hill School in McCurtain County, Oklahoma. Lorenzo and Evelyn Jones were united in marriage on July 27, 1949 in Idabel. Oklahoma. To this marriage six children were born. The Pelt family moved to the Headrick area where Lorenzo worked on area farms. He worked for Pierce Paving in Altus for about 30 years and helped build the area missile silos and some of the runways at Altus Air Force Base. He then worked for the City of Altus Street Department , where he helped build many of the sidewalks in Altus. Lorenzo enjoyed hunting, fishing, tinkering on cars, going to flea markets; watching Gene Autry and John Wayne movies; traveling and spending time with family and friends. He was a member of the Headrick First Baptist Church.
Lorenzo is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Evelyn; one daughter Barbara (Pelt) Gore; and two grandsons, Jeffrey Abernathy and Jodie Gore, three sisters, Aldora Hargis, Ellen Lick, and Elois Flowers and one brother, Ross Pelt.
He is survived by three daughters, Diana Combs and husband, Michael, of Friendship, OK, Sharon Abernathy-Dunn and husband, Richard, of Oklahoma City, OK and Deborah Mobley of Altus, OK; two sons, Otis Pelt and wife, Donna, of Headrick, OK and Michael Pelt and wife, Denise, of Altus, OK; sixteen grandchildren, Donnie Cain and wife, Stephanie, Charity Lehman and husband, Timothy, Sheila Mathews, Lorrie Dwyer and husband, Steven, April Spradlin and husband, Dustin, Justin Combs and fiancee, Erica Foster, Chris Mobley and wife, Melinda, Amy Pilkington and husband, Daron, Jay Abernathy and fiancee, Crystian Hicks, Shannon Butzer and husband, Blake, Jenna Thornton and husband, Chad, Heather Mobley, Kyle Abernathy, Kevin Abernathy and wife, Darci, Miranda Guy and Gabriel Guy and husband, Joel; thirty two great-grandchildren, Bailey, Megan, Brayden, Jessica, Joshy, Shelby, Ellie, Owen, Titus, Isaiah, Haily, Kenzee, Jessie, Brayton, Dallas, Chelsea, Trevor, Jakkson, Rylan, Tristen, Ethan, Abigail, Mason, Deacon, Madysen, Gabby, Stephen, Reese, Tyler, Ashley, Kaitlin, Emily and Elijah; and two great-great grandchildren, Brantley Rogers and Laelette Shelton. He also leaves behind three sisters-in-law, Rosie Pelt of Hugo, OK, Clitha Kilbourne of Hobart, OK and Mary Myers and husband, Kirby, of Memphis, TX; and many other family and friends.
The Pelt family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 PM, Sunday, January 10, 2016 at the Kincannon Gathering Room.
