John Robert “Bob” Worrell, 70, Martha, passed away August 5, 2014 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Celebration of Life services are scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Bob Witt officiating. Gerry Pruitt and Boone Spencer will also be speaking. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Bob was born May 21, 1944, to Sylvester “Becky” and Imogene “Jean” (McGuffin) Worrell in Altus, Oklahoma. He was a graduate from Altus High School in 1962 and had attended Altus Junior College. Bob and Shirley Hamilton were married on April 13, 1963, in Panhandle, Texas. He served his country in the United States Army from 1966 until 1969, served in the 1st Cavalry Air Mobility Division and was awarded the Vietnam Bronze Service Medal and the Bronze Star Medal with Valor. Bob was a decorated Vietnam veteran who was shot down twice during helicopter missions. Following his honorable discharge, Bob and Shirley moved to Tulsa, where he attended the Spartan School of Aeronautics. He attained his A and P license and continued in the aviation field by becoming a certified pilot and flight instructor. The Worrells’ moved to Duncan where he worked on planes and taught flying, until the death of his brother, Carey, in a plane crash. Bob and Shirley moved back to Altus to join his parents in the custom harvesting business. Bob was of the Baptist faith. He and Shirley were literally “world travelers” – including Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, Mexico, Jamaica, Cabo San Lucas to name a few. He enjoyed motor homes, zip lines, roller coasters, bungee jumping, parachuting, snorkeling, river rafting, other adventure sports and visiting with others. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Carey Lynn and Jimmy Paul “Butch” Worrell. He is survived by his wife, Shirley; a son, John Cody Worrell and wife, Jasset, of Sand Springs, OK; four grandchildren, Haylee Cross, Baylee Cross, Jackson Worrell and Emmitt Worrell, all of Sand Springs, OK; an aunt, LaJune White of Altus, OK; a niece, Debbie Estes and husband, Kyle, of Grandbury, TX; cousins, Angela Dugan and husband, David, of Altus, OK, Jimmy White and wife, Stephanie, of Azle, TX, Johnny White of Burleson, TX, Jack DeSpain and wife, Denna, of Piedmont, OK, Marilyn DeSpain and husband, Al Boness, of Forney, TX and Jolene Weichold of San Antonio, TX; and two special friends, Jerry “Hoss” Canada of Lawton, OK and the late Felix Ford; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
