Johnnie Carpenter

September 14, 1921 — February 18, 2016

Johnnie Carpenter, 94, passed away Thursday morning at her home in Duke, OK. Funeral services have been scheduled for 2:00 PM, Saturday, February 20, 2016 at the Duke First Baptist Church with Brother Ralph Chapman officiating. Burial will follow in the Russell Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.

Johnnie Marple was born September 14, 1921 to John Regan and Blanche (McBride) Marple in Burneyville, Oklahoma. She graduated high school in 1939. Johnnie and Garland Carpenter was united in marriage on January 9, 1942 in Russell, OK. To this union one child was born. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Duke. Johnnie was an inspiration to many as she was the ultimate giving and helping person. Whenever the church or community needed help, you would find Johnnie there doing whatever needed to be done. Johnnie took care of the Russell Cemetery for many years. She was well known as the "cookie lady" in Duke. Johnnie was an excellent seamstress and a good cook. Her plum jelly was like no one else's as were her chocolate chip cookies. Johnny supported Duke school and was the ultimate Tiger fan.

Johnnie had been a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Duke for many years, being always in attendance and a faithful giver. Johnnie spent a lot of time taking care of others and helping the elderly. She enjoyed sewing and working, jigsaw puzzles, and had a host of friends and relatives who loved to go to "Aunt Johnnie's" house.

Johnnie is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Garland, who passed away in 1988; and three sisters, Ruby Moore, Grace Bell and Francis Adams.

She leaves behind a daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Bryon Weyrick; three grandchildren, Kristi Smith, Brett Weyrick and John Weyrick; her three great-grandchildren, Arianna Smith, Asha Smith and Carter Weyrick; a sister, Betty Knight of Duke, OK; a special nephew, Wayne Carpenter; a special nieces Jean Cornett and Margaret Taylor, and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

The Carpenter family will greet friends Friday, February 19, 2016 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kincannon Gathering Room.
