Johnny Mealer, 86, Altus, passed away on Friday, January 12, 2018 after a brief illness. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, January 20, 2018 in the Altus Church of God with Rev. David G. Plank officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Johnny was born on April 20, 1931 in Ranger, Georgia to James Linzie and Lela Mae (Cook) Mealer. He grew up in Georgia and enlisted into the US Air Force on July 3, 1951. He served over 30 years and retired as a Chief Master Sergeant on May 2, 1982 as the Senior NCO at Altus Air Force Base. At the time, Johnny was the ranking Chief of the Air Force. He married Joy Hartsfield in 1954 in Tipton, Oklahoma. She preceded him in death in 2001. He then married Pauline Nixon Keener in 2003 in Spring Place, Georgia. She also preceded him in death. After his retirement, Johnny worked for Brewer's Auto for ten years. Johnny was a loving and faithful husband to two great wives. He was a member of the Altus Church of God and a local musician, playing in Tipton and Warren. Johnny loved quail hunting, fishing and gardening.
His parents, wives, a sister, Marcel Powers and husband, Ralph, and a brother, Pete Hayden Mealer, preceded him in death.
Survivors include three sons, Johnny Randell Mealer and wife, Teri, Rickie Lynn Mealer and wife, Michelle, and Terry Lee Mealer; grandchildren, Autumn Morris and husband, Stew, Logan, Joshua and Crystal Mealer; step grandchildren, Wayne and Cory Birk, and Jennifer, Brad and Lance Bourland; 10 great grandchildren; a brother, James L. Mealer and wife, Bonnie; and many other family and friends.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 19, 2018 from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
