Joseph “Joe” Joiner, Jr, 75, Altus, passed away at his home on Sunday, August 21, 2022, surrounded by his family. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, September 3, 2022, at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow in the Veterans Section of the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service. The family will greet friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
Joe was born on March 3, 1947, in Mobile, Alabama to Joseph, Sr. and Minnie (Howard) Joiner. He grew up in Mobile and graduated from the Mobile County Training School in 1965. Joe joined the United States Air Force and retired as a Technical Sergeant after more than 21 years. Joe served during the Vietnam War and received numerous medals including the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with three bronze stars, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with one device. While in the Air Force, he worked as an aircraft mechanic and crew chief. Joe was a member of the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed working on cars, hunting, and fishing. He was affectionately known as “Bub” because he loved bubble gum as a child. He loved music, especially jazz, and cherished time spent with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Ethel and Martha, and a brother, Ronnie Carl.
Survivors include his daughter, Juane Russell and husband, Jules; his grandchildren, Julian, Shayquan, Juane “Doogie”, and Jukwan; great grandchildren, JoJo, Noel, Desselb, Rose, Renee, and Dant’a; three sisters, Ruby Davis, Colleen Goodlow, and Mary Joiner-Allen; two brothers, Robert Joiner and Anthony Joiner; nieces and nephews, Vicki, Akimulisa, Rachel, John, Surnita, Etonia, Kimyetta, Tanzia, Ray-Stanley, Monica, Andrea, Stephanie W., Whitney, Marybeth, Stephanie A., Jermaine, Emanuel, Murphy, Kiara, Omar, Jakara, and Jalen; and many other family members and friends.
