Joseph Cleveland "J.C." Thurmond, 93, Altus, passed away on Monday, July 24, 2017 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, July 29, 2017 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
J.C. was born on July 27, 1923 in Humphreys, Oklahoma to Thomas Harrison and Augusta Jane (Daniels) Thurmond. He graduated from Humphreys High School with the class of 1940. J.C. married Henrietta Boaz in Wichita Falls, Texas on March 28, 1949, He enjoyed custom harvesting for many years and also enjoyed farming. He loved to hunt and fish as well as spend time with his family.
His wife, parents, three brothers, Harrison, John and Harding "Bully" Thurmond, and five sisters, Marie Pillow, Oma Roudebush, Martha Nichols, Emma Mason and Faye Smith, preceded him in death.
Survivors include three daughters, Denise Thurmond-Sabol, Pamela Thurmond and Penny Thurmond-Tripis and husband, Charlie; two sons, Raymond Thurmond and wife, Diana, and Ty Thurmond and wife, Ann; nine grandchildren, Ben Sabol and wife, Becky, Mindy Willard and husband, Ricky, Matt Thurmond and wife, Micah, Reese Thurmond and wife, Katie, Ty Locke and wife, Lynn, Jachin Locke and wife, Lacy, Joey Thurmond and wife, Candace, Lauren Wilson and husband, Darren, and Kaitlin Thurmond; and 18 great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
