Joyce “LaVern” Anderson, 76, of the Altus and Blair communities, passed away on Wednesday, January 11, 2023 at her home in Altus. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday, January 16, 2023 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Major Connie Morris officiating. Burial will follow in the Blair Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Joyce LaVern Anderson was born on February 3, 1946 in Soper, Oklahoma to Roy and Mary (Pilkington) Gallant. She grew up in Blair and graduated from Blair High School in 1964. She attended college at Western Oklahoma State College and worked as a chiropractic assistant, proofreader and an office helper. She worked at the Altus Auto Auction and for the Derrick Construction Company, which built new barracks at Altus Air Force Base. LaVern married Thomas “Frank” Anderson, Jr. in Altus, Oklahoma on November 7, 1965. She was well known for the time she spent as a butcher. She cut meat for Pride’s Meat Processing, United Grocery, Safeway Grocery, Troy’s Grocery, and Blair Food. LaVern enjoyed singing and could be found singing in Warren, Tipton and many other places in southwest Oklahoma.
Her parents, husband, a son, Robert “Wayne” Anderson, a brother, Odell Gallant, and two sisters, Sue Morris and Faye Iannacchino, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her son, Thomas “Andy” Anderson, III and wife, Beatrice; her daughter, Shannon Grimes and husband, William; grandchildren, Victoria Rubio Anderson, Thomas Arthur Miller, Jeremy Brown-Branch, Alexandria Brown, Anthony Lenoir, Tasha Leach and husband, Josh, Breanna Dubuque and husband, Chris Stremlow, Robby Anderson, Tommy Wayne Jones, Samantha Logan, Kyrstin Grimes, Rebecca Grimes, and Kelli Sue Howell and husband, Jake; her great grandchildren, Avyn, Rylan, Aniyah, Kyla, Jayden, Naomi, Kenson, Joseph, Jacob, Raeli, Rhyann, Gavin, Elizabeth, Sebastian, Christian, Tallon, Hailey, Emily, Austin, Percilla, Clayton, Xander, Neal, and Aiden; a great great granddaughter, Lexi; two sisters, Lorene Smith and Barbara Kendrix; three brothers, Delbert Gallant, Billy Gallant, and Troy Gallant and wife, Jackie; two brothers-in-law, Coy Morris and Vito Iannacchino; a very special friend, Gary Kellison; and many other family members and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, January 15, 2023 from 3:00 – 5:00 PM.
