Joye Black, 73, Altus, passed away at her home Thursday, May 17, 2012. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 am, Monday, May 21, 2012 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Joye J. Lawton was born to Kenneth and Marzelle (Hamilton) Lawton on September 6, 1938 in Altus, OK. She graduated from Altus High School in 1957 and continued her studies at Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma. She married Percy “George” Black at the Altus Air Force Base Chapel on January 9, 1960. Joye was an Air Force wife for twenty- one years. She was a past State VFW Ladies Auxiliary President and remained extremely active with VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post # 4876, serving as President numerous times. Joye enjoyed playing Bingo (well, winning Bingo) and going to the casino with her daughter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus, the Red Hat Society and the Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. She also judged various scholarship pageants. Her various contributions to others were immeasurable. Her greatest joys were going out to eat and spending time with her two granddaughters. Joye was a homemaker, had worked at Miss Puff Boutique and assisted in her husband’s business, George’s Upholstery. Joye is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, Percy “George” Black of the home; one daughter, Jana Lynn Edwards and her husband, Doug, of Hollis, OK; two sons, Kenneth William Black of North Little Rock, AR and Curtis Ray Black of Lawton, OK; and two granddaughters, Erica Shea Edwards and Joye Mae Black. The Black family will greet friends from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, Sunday, May 20, 2012 at Kincannon Funeral Home. Casketbearers will be Robert Tischler, Bob Tischler, Ken Pike, Ron Gignac, Paul Zender, Jason McGill and Bob McGill. Honorary casketbearers will be Ed Pinkley and Mark Richardson.
