Long time Jackson County resident, Junior Robert Carter, 87, passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019 following a short illness. He was born January 18, 1932 in Victory (Olustee), Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Theophilus Carter and his mother, Cora Elizabeth (Lucas) Carter. Also by his two sisters, Daisy Lee Carter (Woodrow) McCormack and Mildred Lorene Carter (Norris) Austin.
He is survived by his wife of the home for 67 years, Betty Jo (Walker) Carter, his daughter, Karen K Carter (Merle) Brumgard, Altus, his son, Robert M (Mary) Carter, Oklahoma City. Grandchildren Colby T. Carter, Ft Worth, Courtney M. Carter, Los Angeles, Amanda N. Carter (Andrew) Sippy, Tulsa, and Madison C. Carter (Matthew) Smith, Oklahoma City. Two great-grandchildren, Audriella G Sippy and Asher J Sippy, Tulsa. Brother, Milton E (Mary Ann) Carter, Eufaula, OK.
Junior served 4 years in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, stationed in Okinawa, Japan; Laredo, Texas; and Little Rock, Arkansas. He was then a mail carrier for 38 years, was struck by lightning twice and lived to tell about it.
On the side, he was a meticulous carpenter and excellent tailor. He was an involved and devoted father who took his children camping, hunting, fishing, RV’ing, taught them to drive and so much more. He was always the perfect gentleman, taking care of his “bride” for over 67 years. When he passed, his wife remarked “This is the first time in 67 years that he just went off and left me.”
