Katie Katherine Long, 100, Altus, passed away Sunday, August 23, 2015. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, August 29, 2015 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Clint Burns officiating. Burial will follow services at the Restlawn Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home.
Katie Gentry was born May 15, 1915 in Paris, Texas to M.F. and Clara Emma (Minnie) Gentry. She attended school in Texas and later at Porter High near Hess, Oklahoma after her family moved to Oklahoma when she was 9 years old. Katie and F.M. "Pat" Long were united in marriage on July 23, 1932 in Altus, Oklahoma. She was a member of the P.T.A. for many years and also belonged to the Gladiola Garden Club. She was a member of the Tamarack Road Church of Christ, enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, ceramics, cloth painting, sewing and church work. Katie was a homemaker her entire life and loved spending time with family and friends.
Katie is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, F.M. "Pat" Long, daughter, Patsy Derr and her husband, Jack, and grandson, Pat Casey. She is survived by daughters, Ruth Thomason, Shirley Casey and husband, Ron, and Kay Mentzer; sons, Wayne Long and wife, Janet, and Bud Long and wife, Anna; ten grandchildren, Mike Thomason and wife, Dawn, Wylie Thomason and wife, Suzie, Doug Derr and wife, Dawn, Barbara Thomas and husband, Craig, Dana Lentz and husband, Mike, Kenny Long, Nicole Sedgewick and husband, Mike, Kim Ewing and husband, John, John Mentzer, IV and Amanda Long; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
The Long family will greet friends Friday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Kincannon Gathering Room.
