Laura Lee Fort, 67, passed away Friday, July 28, 2017 at Plantation Village Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, August 2, 2017 at the Kincannon Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rich Ainslie officiating. Burial will follow services at the Cache, Oklahoma Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Laura was the fourth child born to John Henry and Ruby Lee (Campbell) Mitchell on January 14, 1950 in Duncan, Oklahoma. She attended Duncan Public Schools and married William "Bill" Markwardt April 29, 1966 in Wichita Falls, Texas. The family moved to Detroit Lakes, Minnesota where they had one child, Wanda Lynn Markwardt. Laura later married Danny Fort October 29, 1977 in Cache, Oklahoma. To this union two daughters were born, Rubita Megan and Lucinda Renae, who joined Danny's two sons, Christopher and Johnathon. Laura was a loving wife, mother and homemaker who had also worked at a nursing home and at Swift's turkey processing plant. She had resided in the Headrick, Oklahoma area since 1980. She was a member of the Headrick First Baptist Church; enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and camping; and spending time with her family, children, grandchildren and friends.
Laura was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Wanda Lynn Duke; and a stepson, Johnathon Wayne Fort. She is survived by her husband, Danny Fort; two daughters, Megan Weirich and husband, Bobby; Renae Fort and partner, Charles Gibson; one son, Christopher Fort and wife, Lauren; 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; a brother, John Henry Mitchell, Jr; a sister, Sandra Westfall and husband, Id; a niece, Tonya Stewart; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.
The Fort family will greet friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home.
