Leon Bevers, 88, Altus, died Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 23, 2013 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Lawrence Neisent officiating. Burial with military honors will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Leon was born on December 10, 1925 to S.E. and Minnie Ola (Gaines) Bevers in Soper, Oklahoma. He attended school, like many children of his time, through the eighth grade. In 1944, Leon enlisted in the United States Army serving in the Infantry Division. In 1946, he was honorably discharged with the rank of Private 1st Class. Leon married the love of his life, Darlene, on August 28, 1943 in Altus and to this happy union four children were born. Leon worked for many years in the Altus area as a salesman until his retirement; he later worked for the Altus Public Schools. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. He served as commander of the V.F.W. several times. He was also a member of the Trinity Baptist Church of Altus. In Leon’s spare time, he enjoyed camping and fishing. Leon is preceded in death by, his parents; his wife, Darlene; three brothers, J.T., Fred, and Jess Bevers; three sisters, Maudie Bell, Betty Natividad and Fannie May. He is survived by one daughter, Darla Neisent and husband, Larry, of Del City, OK.; three sons, Donnie Bevers and wife, Cathy, of Altus, OK, Lonnie Bevers of Normandy Park, WA., and Jim Bevers of Altus, OK; and sister, Nora Machin of Altus, OK. He is also survived by 12randchildren Altus, OK, 12 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
