Leonides "Leon" Gonzales

d. August 3, 2013

Leonides “Leon” Gonzales, 71, Altus, departed this life into God’s arms on Saturday, August 03, 2013 peacefully in his sleep after a long hard battle with kidney cancer. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 5, 2013 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Freddie Villa officiating. Burial will follow in the Francis Cemetery, near Humphreys, under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for a wake service at 6:00 PM Sunday in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Leon was born on August 28, 1941 in Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico to the Rev. Guadalupe and Maria Gonzales. He was brought in to the United States when he was eight years old. He married Victoria Billarreal in Blair, Oklahoma on October 21, 1962. Leon lived and worked as a farm laborer in Headrick and Humphrey’s and moved to Altus in 1981. Leon was a Christian and loved serving our Lord. He was a Sunday School teacher most of his adult life and retired when his health declined. His parents and a brother, Danny Gonzales, preceded him in death. Leon leaves behind his beloved wife, Victoria Billarreal Gonzales, of 50 years, of the home; two sons, Leon Gonzales, Jr. and wife, Joe Elda, of Houston, TX, and Jimmy Joe Gonzales of Altus, OK; a daughter, Irene Gonzales and husband, Rudy, of North Richland Hills, TX; seven grandchildren, Arcadio Gonzales, Michael Gonzales, Jay Gonzales, Isaac Gonzales, Angelica Gonzales, Cameron Gonzales, and Mark Paul Gonzales; ten great grandchildren; two sisters, Guadalupe Contreras and husband, Manuel, of Wyoming, and Maria Lopez and husband, Aurelio, of Altus, OK; three brothers, Rev. Gualberto Gonzales and wife, Maria, and Rev. Juan Gonzales and wife, Estelita, all of Altus, OK, and David Gonzales and wife, Raquel, of Montana; and several nieces and nephews. Leon departed his life but before he did, he couldn’t stress enough that if you ever wanted to see him once more, he would want everyone to be saved. That when your time comes to meet our loving God, he will be waiting to greet you in Heaven’s gates. He loved his family, but he loved God more. He will be missed by many. Memorial contributions may be made to the Francis Cemetery Association, C/O Tommy Sadler, 15960 S. CR 209, Altus, OK 73521.
