Martin “Buddy Gramps” Branan, 85, Altus, passed away, Wednesday, November 9, 2011 in Altus, Oklahoma. A visitation and memorial service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday, November 19, 2011 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Bruce Davis officiating. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Martin Edmond Branan was born December 16, 1925 to Ike Swartz and Grace Pearl (Webb) Branan in Days, Mississippi. He attended school in Blisville, AR. He was baptized as a youth. He was of the Baptist faith. When he was 16, he started working for the Dacus Casket Company. He worked there from 1941 until 1948. He returned to the Dacus Casket Company in 1955 and worked there as plant superintendent until the 1970’s. He designed the adjustable beds in caskets. In 1970, he took a complete turnaround in his life after holding his 3rd grandbaby, Dawn Kimberly, in his arms. He opened the Bargain House, specializing in antiques, and was the owner of his own upholstery shop, both located in West Memphis, AR. Martin moved to Altus in the early 80’s and established an antique restoration shop, where he was able to continue his love and appreciation of wood. He enjoyed bowling, playing dominoes and fishing. He also loved all animals and visiting with people and his family. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, June; two sisters, Anna Grace and Ruth; a brother, J.W. Branan; and his Australian sheep dog, “Mocha Tailess”. He is survived by one daughter, Doris Jouett and her husband, Donald, of Altus, OK; one brother, Charles Branan of Memphis, TN; three grandchildren, Debora Jouett of Tulsa, OK, David Jouett and wife, Sabra, of Sapulpa, OK, and Dawn Jouett-Meyer of Altus, OK; seven great-grandchildren, Keith Morris and wife, Lori, of Nacogdoches, TX; Nicholas Morris and wife, Cassandra, of Headrick, OK; Kelli Cusher and husband, Cody, of Altus, OK; Alex Jouett and wife, Stephanie, of Mountain Home Air Force Base, ID; Jesse Meyer of Altus, OK; Austin Jouett of Sapulpa, OK and Lynda Beth Daniel-Jouett of Sapulpa, OK; five great-great-grandchildren, Bailey, Chance and Preston Cusher; Landon Morris and Kaylee Jo Morris; four nieces, Debbie, Jennie, Donna and Cissy; five nephews, Marty , Ronnie, Chuck, Mike, Dale; and a host of other family and friends.
