Mary Osborne Bilbrey, longtime Altus resident, passed away at her home on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at the age of 98 years old. A. memorial service will be 1:00 PM Friday, January 26, 2018 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Doug Altom officiating. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Mary (Osborne) Bilbrey, along with her twin sister, Martha, were born July 10, 1919 to William Sammons and Jessie (McCarter) Osborne, South of Olustee, Oklahoma, at her parents farm along the Salt Fork of the Red River. Mary attended the Olustee school and was united in marriage to Robert "Eck" Bilbrey on November 18, 1933. Mary and Eck enjoyed over seventy years of married life together until Eck's passing in 2004. Mary and Eck farmed in Olustee until 1937 when they moved to Southern California. While in California, Mary worked as a cook in a nursery school and Eck worked in the shipyards in San Diego during World War II. In 1947, Mary and Eck moved back to Olustee, and then to Altus in 1957, where she worked for the JC Penny Company, followed by Greens Jewelry. In 1975, Mary began working for Mr. Bill Henry first as secretary to the Principal at Central Jr. High School and later as a Deputy for the Jackson County Superintendant of Schools. Mary was a devoted member of the Altus First Baptist Church. Mary was an accomplished seamstress, an outstanding cook, enjoyed spending time with her family and was tireless in helping care for family and friends who were in need.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, and six sisters, her son-in-law, Robert R. "Bob" Parker; her daughter-in-law, Jennie Kay Bilbrey; and her granddaughter, Jamie E. Shepherd.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. Parker; her son, Dale W. Bilbrey; granddaughter Patti Hook and husband, Mike; grandson, Philip Parker and wife, Ki Lynn; grandson-in-law, Ron Shepherd and grandson, Christopher Parker and wife, Robin; as well as nine great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.
