Mary E. Hill, 85, Altus, pasted away Friday, October 30, 2020 at English Village nursing home. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, November 2, 2020 at the Kincannon Chapel with Bobby Henry officiating. Private burial will follow at the Headrick Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Mary Elizabeth Hill was born on December 12, 1934 in Hedley, Texas to Nathan and Oleta (Riffle) Stogner. Mary attended school in Amarillo and married Jim L. Hill on March 12, 1951 in Childress, Texas. Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and went to Korea while Mary waitressed in Amarillo. Upon his return the Hill’s started their family with the birth of Jimmie Wayne, followed by Debra and Lynda. Mary was a grandmother of nine and great grandma of many, her grandchildren called her Mamaw and her great grand children called her Mimi. Mary and Jim were devoted Christians and their church family was a big part of their lives. They started at a small Church of Christ in Headrick, Oklahoma. Jim and Mary then moved to the Thomas Street Church of Christ in Altus, and finally the Tamarack Road Church of Christ in Altus.
Mary and Jim have been blessed with many friends throughout the years who they enjoyed fishing and camping trips with them. Mary will always be remembered for the good food she cooked and hospitality she showed others. Jim’s country band played regularly in area nursing homes and Mary was his biggest fan. She enjoyed watching him play guitar and as the lead singer in the band. Mary loved shopping with her daughters as long as the trip included Western Sizzlin’. She was a very talented lady with many hobbies which included crafts, baking, canning, crocheting and sewing. Mary always decorated for the holidays and candy for family and friends. She fed anyone who came to visit. Mary worked in Activities and Social Services at English Village in Altus, Oklahoma and Memorial Nursing Center in Fredrick, Oklahoma for many years. Upon retirement, she and Jim spent time together fishing and traveling to Alaska, California, Tennessee, Florida and many more places. Mary loved her family, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much and will be greatly missed by them.
Mary is preceded in death by her husband Jimm Hill, parents Nathan and Oleta (Riffle) Stogner, sisters Linda Faye and Wanda Gann, son in laws Gary Lindsey and Rick Boldery.
She is survived by her children Jimmie Wayne, Debra and Lynda, nine grand children, numerous great grand children and nieces and nephews.
