Mary Wayne Stephens Moates

Mary Wayne Stephens Moates, 80, of Altus, passed away Wednesday, June 10, 2020 at the O U Medical Center in Oklahoma City. Graveside services will be held at 10:30 Monday, June 15, 2020 at the Altus City Cemetery with Rev. Doug Altom officiating. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Mary Wayne was born September 9, 1939 in Hollis, Oklahoma to J. C. and Mildred (Stephens) Turner. She graduated from Hollis High School in 1957. Mary worked Civil Service at the Altus Air Force Base Hospital in the administrative department for many years. She continued her education at Western Oklahoma State College, attaining her Associates of Arts Degree. Mary was a member of the Southside Baptist Church where she was a VBS and Awanas volunteer and served on the Fellowship Committee. She was also a very dedicated community volunteer, serving as trustee for the Woodmen of the World Chapter 111; member of the American Business Women’s Association; member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Chapter 0909; volunteered at the Senior Citizens Meal Site; volunteer as a JCMH Pink Lady; worked as a voter representative for many years; volunteered at the Salvation Army Soup Kitchen; rang the Salvation Army Kettle bell each year; and was a substitute teacher for the Altus Public School system.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, J.C. and Mildred Turner. She is survived by her cousin, Clay Stephens; special friend, Joyce Harris; special niece, Lori Tamez and a host of other church members and friends.
