Melvin Padgett, 76, lifelong Blair resident, died Thursday, April 4, 2013 at his home. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2013 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Joe Poulin officiating. Burial will follow services at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Melvin Padgett was born May 3, 1936 in Mineola, Texas to Leonard Abner and Meleda (Hoehne) Padgett. He attended Blair School and graduated in 1954. He married Juanita Rogers December 29, 1966. Melvin was a Royal Crown Cola salesman for many years. He retired in 1995 and helped his mother with the Padgett apartments in Blair. He loved to watch the OU Sooners; Thunder Basketball; Texas Rangers; fishing, bowling and TV sports. Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Juanita; sister, Evelyn Elkins; brother, Wilbur Padgett; granddaughter, Lauren Avila and niece, Tammy Harrington. He is survived by three daughters, Juanell Avila of Olustee, OK; Stacy Combs and husband Darrel of Altus, OK; Rita Johns of Olympia, WA; three sons, Dale Padgett of Hobart, OK; Ricky Padgett and wife Tammy of Edmond, OK; Jerry Marlow and wife Brooke of Purcell, OK; sister, Helen Paris and husband Chuck of Altus, OK; fourteen grandchildren, Craig and Sherry Padgett, Shannon Sharp, Courtney, Zack and Clay Padgett, Brittany Howes, Taylor Avila, Tabitha, Candace and Dillon Combs, Ricky Caan, Blake and Dallas Marlow; son-in-law Bobby Avila of Altus, OK; special friend, Nelda Scoggins and his two dogs, Shorty and Rowdy. Melvin also leaves behind a host of friends. The Padgett family will greet friends Sunday afternoon from 2 to 4p.m. at the Kincannon Gathering Room.
