Melvin Rader, 89, formerly of Altus, passed away Sunday, April 7, 2019 at his daughter's home in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 15, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Davis officiating. Inurnment of his cremated remains will follow services at 2 p.m. at Fort Sill National Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Melvin Huff Rader was born February 7, 1930 in Dalhart, Texas to Frank Taylor and Margaret Pearle (Huff) Rader. He graduated from Dalhart High School with the Class of 1948 and enlisted in the United States Air Force in August of the same year. Melvin married Nina Jean Fisk on August 6, 1950 in the Pine Street Methodist Church in Dalhart, Texas. While in the Air Force he was stationed in Yokota AFB, Japan; McClellan AFB, California; Randolph AFB, Texas; Eielson AFB, Alaska; Charleston AFB, South Carolina and finally Altus AFB, Oklahoma. His flying career logged over 5000 hours. Melvin retired as a Master Sergeant in July of 1975 following 26 years, 10 months and 17 days of service to his country. During his retirement days he kept himself busy as a member of the Lions Club, Literacy Council, and the Altus High School All Sports Club. Melvin was a big Altus Bulldogs fan; liked to play checkers; deliver Meals On Wheels and go to Whataburger and order the #13 - that's the chicken strips with gravy. He enjoyed his military friends, his church friends and spending time with his wife and family.
Melvin is preceded in death by his parents; wife Jean; brother, Frank Rader and two sisters, Mona Sorenson and Mary Jameson.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory two daughters, Brenda Robinson and husband, Tim; Denise Williams and husband, Darryll; two sons, David Rader and wife, Susan; Brian Rader and wife, Patti; forty two (plus or minus) grands-greats-and great great grands.
