Missionary Bettie L. (West) Tubbs, 59, Altus, a woman of God, passed away following a courageous battle with diabetes on Monday, April 25, 2011 at her sister and brother-in-law’s, Lillie and Chaplain (LTC) Harry R. Reed, Jr., home in Columbia, South Carolina. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday, April 30, 2011 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Prophet Marcus West, Jr. and Chaplain (LTC) Harry R. Reed, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Bettie L. West was born on November 8, 1951 in Temple, Oklahoma to Marcus Nathaniel and Jerelene Julia (Lee) West. She had five brothers and six sisters and attended Lincoln High School in Altus, Oklahoma. Bettie could accomplish anything she set her mind to. She worked as a manager at a restaurant in Manhattan, New York and at Underwood’s Barbeque and Luigi’s in Altus, Oklahoma, but worked most of her life as a nurse at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. She also worked at two hospitals as a caretaker in El Paso, Texas and Shreveport, Louisiana. She served as a missionary and provided care for many people. Bettie was the treasurer at New Beginning Full Gospel Church for five years in Altus, Oklahoma. In the latter part of her life, she was an active member of the Daniel Circle Chapel at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, where her brother-in-law was the pastor. She enjoyed visiting with friends and she left behind a great testimony, which pleased God. She loved singing, preaching, creating baskets, big hats, traveling, and listening to gospel music. Her parents, two brothers, Matthew and Raymond West, and a sister, Apostle Bernice Sneed, preceded her in death. Survivors include her daughter, Melissa “Lisa” Clark of Mary Esther, Florida; a son, Shawn Johnson of Fort Walton Beach, Florida; four grandchildren, Andre’ A. Clark, Adrian A. Clark, Deshanae Johnson and Nadia Williams; seven brothers and sisters, Kenneth West of Altus, Oklahoma, Charlene Walker and her husband, Apostle Leroy Walker, of Altus, Oklahoma, Lillie L. Reed and her husband, Chaplain (LTC) Harry Reed, of Elgin, South Carolina, Wilda Jean West of Fort Worth, Texas, Prophet Marcus West, Jr. and wife, Prophetess Sharon West, of Altus, Oklahoma, Katie Mae Edwards of Lawton, Oklahoma, and James Ray West and wife, Jackie, of Columbus, Georgia; her spiritual mother, Luereatha Bailey; and several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 6110 Executive Blvd., Suite 1010, Rockville, Maryland 20852. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday, April 29, 2011 at the funeral home.
