Muriel L. Coppage, 91, of Altus, OK passed away Thursday, May 9, 2013 at English Village Manor. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Clint Burns officiating. Burial will follow at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Muriel was born September 12, 1921 to Silas “Shine” Fletcher and Oncie Ione (Duvall) Holleman near the Westview community. She attended school in Hollis, OK and Westview, which is now known as Westview Boys Home. Muriel’s father helped build the gym and Muriel was lucky in that she was able to play the first basketball game ever played in the gym. She attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University. Muriel met the love of her life when she was 17 years old while attending a Halloween party. She told everyone he would be the man she would marry. On August 7, 1943, Muriel married Leo Coppage in Ogden, Utah where he was recovering from injuries he suffered while stationed at Guadacanal during WWII. She was a member of Tamarack Road Church of Christ. She was an avid OU and Dallas Cowboys fan. She enjoyed cooking and camping. She especially loved to spend time playing cards with her friends and grandchildren. She also loved to watch her grandchildren play sports. Mrs. Coppage was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo; one granddaughter, April Coppage, and a sister, Marguerie Jones. She is survived by one daughter, Sherri Parker of Altus, OK, one son, Leo Coppage, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Eldorado, OK; one sister, Georgia Bartlett of Sweetwater, TX; four grandchildren, Robin Grange and husband, Vince, of Altus, OK, Rachelle Holland and husband, Kevin, of Quanah, TX, Tabitha Ledbetter and husband, David, of Eldorado, OK, and Tonya Ware and husband, Todd of Altus, OK; eight great-grandchildren, Kale Akers and Johna Akers of Quanah, TX, Sydney Desjarlais of Altus, OK, Tandy Grange of Altus, OK, Tyson Ledbetter of Eldorado, OK, Kaden Ledbetter of Eldorado, OK, Destiny Von Raesfeld of Altus, OK and Emelie Von Raesfeld of Altus, OK. There will be a visitation for family and friends from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Friday evening, May 10, 2013 at the Kincannon Funeral Home. The family has requested memorials may be made to the Westview Boys Home, P.O. Box 553, Hollis, OK 73550.
