Nell Emerson, 87, Altus, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Thursday, June 7, 2018 at the Centennial Memorial Chapel at Altus City Cemetery with Rev. Doug Altom officiating. Burial will be in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home.
Nell McElwee was born on September 29, 1930 in Checota, Texas to William M. and Jewell (Hunter) McElwee. She married Norman Kaufman on September 29, 1948 in Vernon, Texas. Nell later married Frank Emerson on April 21, 1979 in Elk City, Oklahoma. Nell worked as a hostess for the Flamingo Restaurant and a bookkeeper for the Elks Cleaners and Laundry in Elk City. She later worked as a Data Input Supervisor for the State of Oklahoma Insurance Fund for many years. Nell was a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus. She was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved spending time with her family.
Her parents, husband, Frank Emerson, a great grandchild, Daemon Matthew Mobbs, three sisters, MaryBeth Ware, Wanda Hutchinson and Sue Lockridge, and two brothers, Malcolm and Scott McElwee, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Larry Kaufman; a daughter, LaNell (Kaufman) Mobbs and husband, Eddy; eight grandchildren, Tina Myers and husband, Darie, Dena Lay, Tara Gilbert and husband, Brad, Krista Salafia and husband, Adam, Jon Mobbs and wife, Jessica, Brianne Bourne, Jennifer Kaufman and Tiffany Kaufman; ten great grandchildren; four sisters, Martha Adkins, Jean McCallay, Micki Stover and Jeanene Williams; and a host of other nieces, nephews, family and friends.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 - 8:00 PM on Wednesday.
