Nell Marie Richardson

Nell Marie Richardson, 98, former Altus resident of Hillsborough, NC, passed away on October 24, 2020 in North Carolina. Memorial services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, June 12, 2021 at the Altus City Cemetery with Rev. Boyd Whitehead and Rev. Brent Logan officiating. Inurnment will be under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Nell Marie Hutton was born on October 3, 1922 in Tipton, Oklahoma. The youngest of thirteen children born to Leasal and Vilena Hutton, she grew up in nearby Snyder and attended school there for 11 years. She later completed a GED and studied accounting at Southwestern Oklahoma State College in Weatherford. Nell Marie married Adrian Richardson on June 8, 1939 in Hobart. To this union was born one daughter, Carol Janell, who married Jack Rogers and had three daughters, Hazel Marie (deceased), Laura Nell, and Bonnie Michele.

Together, the Richardson’s farmed and worked at cotton gins in Snyder and Mangum. They were also members of their local Baptist Church. They faithfully participated in Bible studies, taught Sunday School, and treasured their connection with friends and community. Adrian and Nell Marie retired in 1987 and moved to Altus in 1990, shortly before Adrian died on July 31 of that year. This devoted couple was married for 51 years. Nell Marie moved to North Carolina in 2003 to be closer to her granddaughters and was active in prayer ministries and Bible study groups in Chapel Hill and Hillsborough.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Adrian, her daughter, Carol, and one granddaughter, Hazel Marie. Nell is survived by two daughters, Laura and Bonnie, both of North Carolina, and a host of beloved nieces, nephews, and friends.
