Nelson Eddy Hays, 84, passed away at his home in Altus, Oklahoma on Wednesday, December 25, 2024. The family will greet friends from 3:00 – 5:00 PM on Sunday, December 29th. Services will be at 10:00 AM on Monday, December 30th, in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Jerry Don Raab officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Fairmount Cemetery in Hollis under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Nelson Eddy Hays was born to Albert Aklee and Verona Laura (West) Hays in Hollis on June 21, 1940. With nine siblings there wasn’t much solitary time. He attended Ron School, near Hollis, in his formative years. Nelson married Wanda Colene White on January 13, 1957, in Childress, Texas. Three children were born to this union, Robby, Eddie, and LaWanda.
Nelson dedicated much of his life to his career as a civil engineer at Altus Air Force Base, where his expertise and commitment left a lasting impact. Outside of work, he found joy in many pastimes, including fishing, riding his motorcycle, collecting, and sharing family dinners. He was also known for his spirit on Facebook Marketplace, where he loved buying, selling, and trading treasures.
A passionate sports fan, Nelson was a proud supporter of the Oklahoma Sooners and the Dallas Cowboys, never missing an opportunity to cheer for his teams.
Nelson’s life was marked by his love for his family, his hobbies, and the simple joys that made each day special. Time spent with Nelson will be deeply treasured by all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his bride of 58 years, Colene; son, Eddie Hays; parents, Albert and Verona Hays; and siblings, Raymond Albert Hays, Kenneth Earl Hays, Roger Lee Hays, Jimmy Lee Hays, Benny Lee Hays, Roy D. Hays, Betty Pearl Colson, and Dorothy Mae Hays.
Nelson is survived by his children, Robby Hays and wife, Sharon and LaWanda Alexander and husband, Chris; grandchildren, Deric Hays and wife, Lisa, Jennifer Kubala and husband, Jamesonon, Sheri Tolson and husband, Jimmy, Eddie Barett Hays, Colton Hays, Bea Alexander and fiancé, Brennan Bush, and Christopher Alexander; great-grandchildren, Kiefer Tovar and wife, Kylie, Kyrste Kubala, Jordyn Hays and wife, Kaitlyn, Ryllie Hays, Ayden Hays, Tapanga Tolson, and Jayce Tolson; great-great grandchildren, Aravani and Axel Tovar and Scotlyn Hays; sister, Shirley Pierce; and a host of other family and friends.
