Nema Walker

Nema Joyce Gardner Walker, 77, Blair, passed away on Thursday, August 26, 2021 in Oklahoma City. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, September 4, 2021 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Tyler McDowell officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.

Nema Joyce Gardner was born on December 12, 1943 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Eldon “Buster” and Juanita (Scruggs) Gardner. She was a proud 1961 graduate of City View High School near Blair. She worked many years for the Insurance Company of North America in Sacramento, California before her family moved back to build a home in the Blair, Oklahoma countryside. Here she was loved while working at the Jackson County Abstract office for many years. Nema finished her career working government contracting at Altus Air Force Base. She retired to her country home where she enjoyed the wonderful creatures that frequented their watering tank and took great pleasure feeding the ever-thirsty hummingbirds at her window. She was very proud of her Choctaw Indian heritage and the fact that her name, Nema, meant “Little Mother” in her native language.

Nema is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Johnie Franklin Walker; her parents, Eldon and Juanita Gardener; sister, Shirley Barber; and a brother, Robert Gardner.

Nema is survived by her two sons, Eldon Wesley Walker and wife, Janell, and Stephen Ray Walker and wife, Johna; five grandchildren including Morgan Walker, Stephenie Walker and Cheyenne Walker West, and Julie Gardner; three great grandchildren including Solomon Walker; and many nieces and nephews.
