SPC Nickolaus Deloy Basaldua, 22, Olustee, Oklahoma passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2022 in Vicenza, Italy. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, August 4th at Kincannon Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:00 PM on Friday, August 5th at Thrive Church with Pastor Rick Elliott officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Altus City Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
SPC Nickolaus Deloy Basaldua was born on May 11, 2000 at Altus Memorial Hospital and was a native of Olustee, Oklahoma. SPC Basaldua graduated from High School in 2019. After graduation he enlisted in the United States Army as an 11B and attended basic combat training at Fort Benning, Georgia followed by One Station Unit Training. Upon completion of his One Station Unit Training, SPC Basaldua graduated the United States Army Airborne School on the 31st of January, 2020, becoming a proud member of the Airborne community.
SPC Basaldua was assigned to Able Company, 2-503D Battalion where he served as a SAW Gunner, Rifleman, and Grenadier. He deployed to Camp Lemmonier, Djibouti in support of Operation Octave Quartz where he stood prepared for rapid deployment as a Quick Response Force (QRF). As part of Able, 2-503D SPC Basaldua participated in Saber Junction and countless Company and Platoon LFX's.
His awards and decorations include the Army Achievement medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, Basic Parachutist Badge, and the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Badge.
SPC Nickolaus Basaldua is survived by his grandmother, Elizabeth; grandfather, Lasaro; mother, Mary Laronda; brothers, Anthony and Michael; and sister, Lizzy.
