Norma Jean Thurmond, 82, Altus, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Plantation Village Nursing Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Monday, August 25, 2014 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Norma Jean Warburton was born on February 7, 1932 to Clifford E. and Mary Lou (Purcell) Warburton in Purcell, Oklahoma. Norma and Harding Thurmond were united in marriage on November 14, 1950 in Vernon, Texas. Harding preceded her in death on February 7, 2008. She belonged to the Southwest Oklahoma Quilt Guild Club. She was an avid homemaker her entire married life. Norma loved to quilt, sew, crochet, and most of all loved raising children. She loved to cook for anyone with an empty stomach and spend afternoons gardening. She had a zest for life unparalleled to others. Norma Jean was also generous of her time by volunteering with various activities in the community. She was a true friend to all who knew her. Norma is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sons, Timothy Thurmond and Miles Thurmond. She leaves behind a daughter, Tammy Flood and husband, Mark, of Headrick, OK; a son, Jason Thurmond and wife, Linda, of Altus, OK; four grandchildren, Tia Madl and husband, Brandon, of Edmond, OK, Diana Michelle Flood of Edmond, OK, Kyle Flood of Whiteman AFB, MO and Mollie Johnston of Snyder, OK: and one great-grandchild, Haiden Johnston. The Thurmond family will receive guests from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, Sunday, August 24, at the Kincannon Gathering Room. Additional parking for the service is available behind the funeral home, Best Western to the South or Western Sizzlin’ to the North.
