Oma Ellen Mitchell Jones, 84, of Eldorado, passed away Friday, June 11, 2010 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 14, 2010 at the Eldorado Church of Christ with Bill Osborne and Mike Marsalis officiating. Burial took place in the Eldorado Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Oma was born on February 18, 1926 in Eldorado, Oklahoma to G.C. “Clyde” and Rosa Ellen (Scott) Mitchell. Oma attended school at Midway, east of Eldorado, up to her senior year. She then attended Eldorado High School until graduation. Between high school and college, Oma built aircraft during World War II. She later graduated from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma with a BA in Education. She married Macele “Spunk” Jones on August 29, 1947 in Elk City, Oklahoma. They were married for almost 63 years. Oma taught at Delhi, Retrop, Plainview, Randlett and Amarillo Christian School. Spunk and Oma began raising their family in Amarillo and then Burkburnett, Texas until they returned to Eldorado, where they have lived since. Oma was a great wife, mother, grandmother and a valued family member. She was a member of the Eldorado Church of Christ, a Sunday School Teacher, a Cub Scout Den Mother, softball pitcher and an avid member of the PBR. She liked to stay up to date with news and current events and was a fierce family advocate. Her parents, a son, Randy Jones, a brother, Billy Joe Mitchell, and a sister, Nadine Mitchell Bryant, preceded her in death. Survivors include her husband of the home; a daughter, Rebecca Jones Lary of Quanah, Texas; a son, Duane Jones of Eldorado, Oklahoma; three grandchildren, James Macele Jones of McAllen, Texas, Joshuah Blake Jones of Burkburnett, Texas, and Patience Ellen Newsom of Quanah, Texas; two great grandchildren, Adia Jade Jones of New Braunfels, Texas and Kaden Paul Newsom of Quanah, Texas; and a brother and sister-in-law, G.C. “Corky” Mitchell and Mary of Altus, Oklahoma.
