Owayne Geraldine McLeod, 90, Altus, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Plantation Assisted Living Center. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, 2011 at the Altus City Cemetery with Rev. Margie VanOostrum officiating. Services are under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Owayne Geraldine Tabb was born March 17, 1921 in Blair, Oklahoma to Allen Henry and Vesta Mae (Cheatham) Tabb. She graduated at Blair High School in 1939 and attended Altus Junior College. John Young McLeod and Owayne had been dating before he left for wheat harvest in Kansas with his sister Betty and her husband Harlan Tabb. While harvesting, John disappeared one weekend, returned to Blair, married Owayne, July 5, 1946, and took his bride back with him to spend their honeymoon harvesting wheat. She was a devoted farm wife, a loving mother and a homemaker. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the FUMC Women’s Circle, assisted with distribution of the FUMC Benevolence Fund and the Altus Ladies Elks Club. She was an excellent cook. She made the best crème pies and chocolate cake. Her children, nieces and nephews looked forward to her homemade fudge and Aunt Bill’s candy each Christmas. She enjoyed playing canasta with the Ladies Elks Club, sewing and gardening, making candy for the holidays with sisters-in-law, Betty Tabb and Patsy Cox, and for FUMC’s Country Kitchen Bazaar, and spending time with family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, an infant granddaughter, and five brothers, Cloyse, Raymond “Mutt”, Kenneth, Allen Lowell “Big Boy”, and Harlan Tabb. She is survived by her sons, James Raymond McLeod and wife Helen of Altus, OK; John Robert McLeod and wife Jolene of Altus, OK; Alan Hill McLeod and wife Jennifer of Denton, TX; grandchildren, Kim Bonewitz and husband Mike, Tamra O’Neal and husband Keith, Kathleen Haskin and husband Grant, Brent McLeod and wife Jennie, Kristin McLeod, Tara Balsley and husband Matt, Hillary McMillen and husband James; sisters-in-law, Betty Tabb, Patsy Cox and husband Forrest of Altus, Ok; brother-in-law, Robert McLeod and wife Joyce of Tehachapi, California and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial contributions may be made to the FUMC Project Noel for needy children.
