Paul W. Davis, 92, passed away on Monday, July 28, 2014 at his home in Duke. Graveside services have been scheduled for 10:00 AM, Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Rock Cemetery, North of Duke, with Erin Martinez officiating. Interment is under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Paul William Davis was born on July 20, 1922 to Fred and Alma Butcher Davis on their family farm southwest of Duke, Oklahoma. In 1939, Paul joined the Navy to see the world and serve his country during WWII. He first served on the aircraft carrier USS Lexington, and on the USS Isabel. He was at sea when Pearl Harbor was attacked on Dec. 7th 1941. He was in the Philippines when the Japanese attacked there on Dec. 8th 1941. Paul also spent time in the South China Sea, Philippines, Dutch East Indies, Western Australia, and many locations in the Pacific and Hawaii. Paul returned home after the war and was discharged from the Navy in 1945. Paul and Sara Anderson were united in marriage on August 6, 1945 in Altus, Oklahoma. Paul and Sara stayed busy after the war with operating a dry cleaner’s. He also became a rural mail carrier and all the while building his family farm. Paul loved fishing in south Texas, playing dominoes, growing tomatoes in his garden, and had a great passion for growing cotton on the farm. Paul was the “Rock” of the family and a great man. He provided guidance, coaching and mentorship to everyone he knew. He is preceded in death by his wife, Sara; three sons, Phillip Davis, Charles Davis and an infant son, Anthony Davis; a daughter, Jeanette Atkinson; three brothers; four sisters; and a step grandson Paul is survived by his sister, Fern Hardwick of Napa, CA; two grandchildren, April Dayton and her children, Skyler and Breanna, and their father, Darin Dayton, and Kristi Lee and her children, Austin Brinkman and Kameron Lee, and their fathers Brad Brinkman, and Ronnie Lee; two step grandsons, Alan Womack and wife, Rana, Jimmy Womack and wife, Jaime, and many other family and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Friday at the funeral home.
