Polly Hughes Dial, 90, formerly of Altus, passed away Friday, February 10, 2012 in Claremore, OK. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 am, Friday, February 17, at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Rev. Margie Van Oostrum officiating. Burial will follow in the Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, at 1:00 pm, under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Polly Hughes was born on December 8, 1921, in Mangum, OK, to Arthur Owen Hughes, DVM, and Julia Belle Hoover Hughes. She graduated in 1939 from high school in Mangum and attended Oklahoma A&M College in Stillwater, OK, obtaining her bachelor's degree. She married Lee Jackson Dial, Jr., on April 8, 1945, in Mangum. She followed her husband throughout his military career, living in Texas, California, Georgia, Louisiana, Japan and Panama, until his retirement. They made their home in Altus. Polly was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, acting as secretary/treasurer for 33 years; the First United Methodist Church, active in Country Kitchen and Circle II; the Friends of the Library, giving many programs; and the Daffodil Club. Her parents; a brother, Kay Hughes; a sister, Peggy Hughes Johnson; and her husband, preceded her in death. She is survived by her four daughters; Dr. Emily Dial-Driver of Claremore, Julia Sheppard of Claremore, Ellen Dial Fitzpatrick of Ionia, MI, and Lee Ann Dial Badger of San Antonio, TX; 3 sons-in-law, Grant Driver, Dan Badger, and Charles Fitzpatrick; 9 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73123-1718. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
