Raymond Milton Gilliam, 80, Altus, passed away on Monday morning December 17, 2012 at the Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:30 PM Thursday, December 20, 2012 in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Bill Estep officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Raymond Milton Gilliam was born in Harmon County, Oklahoma on April 24, 1932 to William Leander and Margaret Katherine (Dudley) Gilliam. He grew up on a farm outside of Gould, Oklahoma, where he attended Ron School through the 10th grade. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1954. Raymond spent 16 years working at Woods Grocery in Altus, Oklahoma. He then was employed by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for 24 years until his retirement in 1993. He attended the Pentacost Church of God in Altus. If you ask any of Raymond’s family or friends to describe him, they would call him a humble man who would have done anything to help. He opened his home, shared his food, would work on a car at the drop of a hat, and always went out of his way to help someone in need. The most important thing in his life was always family. Whether it was his immediate family or in-laws, he always wanted to do things together. His two grandchildren were the joy of his life. Raymond married the love of his life, Anna Lou Ross, of December 31, 1955 in Vernon, Texas. They shared their wonderful life together with their two sons in Altus. His parents, William Leander and Margaret Katherine Gilliam, two brothers, Thomas and Earl Gilliam, and three sisters, Jane Richeson, Doris Gilliam, and Lucy McEndree, preceded him in death. Survivors include his wife, Anna Lou, of the home; two sons, Milton Gilliam and wife, Janet, of Oklahoma City, OK, and Robert Gilliam of Davis, OK; two grandchildren, Lauren Gilliam and Eric Gilliam, both of Yukon, OK; four brothers, Bert Gilliam and wife, Dorthy, of Clinton, OK, Lloyd Gilliam of Altus, OK, Wayne Gilliam of Edmond, OK, and George Gilliam of Altus, OK; two sisters, Nettie Humphries and husband, Jimmy, of Fort Cobb, OK, and Mertie Van Dyne of Edmond, OK; a special niece, Kathy Eoff of Barling, AR, who spent many years in the home. He is also survived by a very special family, Ray and Nancy Boone of Altus, OK, Ariel Boone of San Antonio, TX, Jordan Boone of Edmond, OK, and Rayven Boone of Altus, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. The family will receive friends from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Altus Church of God, 900 S. Park Lane, Altus, Oklahoma 73521. Additional parking for Wednesday’s service is available behind the funeral home, Best Western to the South and Western Sizzlin’ to the North.
