Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at the Olustee First Baptist Church with Max Gunn officiating. Burial will take place 2 p.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Highland Cemetery in Durant, Oklahoma under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home in Altus, Oklahoma.
Red was born October 1, 1931to Cecil K. and Vesta (Williamson) Ballew in Anadarko, OK. As a teen, he was involved in the Civil Air Patrol. He graduated from Altus High School with the Class of 1948. After graduation he attended Draughns Business College in Wichita Falls, Texas. He also attended the OSU Vo Tech in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, where he studied radio and television repair. Red and Mary McDonough were united in marriage on December 24, 1953 in Durant, Oklahoma, to this union two children were born. Mary preceded him in death in April of 1992. He married Norma Weber on August 21, 1995 in Olustee, Oklahoma. Red was a radio and television repairman for about 10 years after graduating from the OSU Vo-Tech. He later worked in Civil Service at Altus Air Force Base for twenty five years until his retirement in December of 1991. Red was a member of the Olustee First Baptist Church. He began playing the guitar at the age of thirteen and played for seventy years. He loved playing music with his family. He enjoyed coaching his kids in little league; photography; fishing and camping on Turkey Creek with his family.
Red is preceded in death by his parents; wives, Mary and Norma; two step grandchildren, Jennifer Nezat and Shane Kenmore; brother-in-law, Jake Biddy. He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Chaloupek and husband Jim of Canton, OK; son, Dan Ballew and wife DeeAnn of Durant, OK; stepdaughter, Jackie Kenmore and husband Terry of Olustee, OK; stepson Randy Weber of Blair, OK; four grandchildren, Dusty Meyer of OKC, OK; Dillon Chaloupek of Canton, OK, Lynsey Ballew and Haley Ballew, both of Durant, OK; one great-grandchild, Bradley Taylor of Walters; one step-grandchild, Chad Weber; four step-grandchildren, Korbin Kenmore of Stillwater, OK, Dakota Latham of Altus, OK, Savannah Nezat, of Kilgore, TX and Garrett Weber; two great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Lorene Biddy of Blair, OK.
Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Olustee, Oklahoma.
