Richard "Dick" Ebel,

Richard D. “Dick” Ebel, Sr., 86, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2012 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, December 12, 2012 at the Faith Lutheran Church with B.J. Armstrong officiating. Cremation will follow services under the care of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Richard D. Ebel, Sr., known “Dick”, was born on February 27, 1926 in Dakota City, Nebraska to Joseph and Alice (Wilson) Ebel. He grew up in Dakota City and South Sioux City, Nebraska. He was baptized in March of 1926 at the Salem Lutheran Church. Dick was drafted into the Army his senior year. He served in the field artillery service during World War II. He was stationed in Germany and France, and later returned to Fort Sill where he met the love of his life, Bobbye Duncan. They were married in Nebraska in January of 1948. Dick was a hard working, self-made man. He worked predominately in poultry and produce, and the trucking insurance industry. For 27 years, he helped build a thriving business with Great West Insurance and retired as Vice-President of Claims in 1983. Dick and Bobbye had two children; Richard Jr., a restaurateur and teacher, and wife, Debra (Leflett) Ebel, of Arlington, Texas, and Maria Ebel Barr, a dental hygienist, and husband, Paul, of Joplin, Missouri; three grandchildren, Brandon and Brody Ebel, and Brooke Barr; one great grandchild, Blake Hudson Ebel; three sisters-in-law, Bettye Brown and husband, Lynn, of Altus, OK, Carolyn Duff and husband, Roy, of Altus, OK, and Doris Duncan of Altus, OK; three brothers-in-law, Sam Duncan and wife, Margie, of Altus, OK, Jerry Don Duncan and wife, Carol, of Spokane, MO, and Jack H. Duncan and wife, Anita, of Norman, OK; and many other relatives and friends. Dick believed in community service and was a member of several organizations. He was a long time member of Kiwanis of South Sioux City. He was a 60 year member of the Omadi Masonic Lodge No. 5, and a 50 year member of the Abu Bekr Shriners. Additionally, he and his wife were Worthy Patron and Worthy Matron of the South Sioux Eastern Star. He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran churches in Nebraska and Oklahoma. In 1996, he and Bobbye moved to Altus, Oklahoma, to help with the care of her parents, Clyde and Stella (Campbell) Duncan. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Lyle, Billy Bob and Joseph (who was killed at the Battle of the Bulge in WWII), as well as his sisters, Maxine, Lois, Gertrude, Betty and Mary Lou, and a brother-in-law, James Clyde Duncan.
