Robert Teodor “Bob” Ekman, 95, passed peacefully on April 11, 2024, at English Village Nursing Home in Altus, Oklahoma. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Robert was born on June 25, 1928, in Winter, Wisconsin to Otto and Alice (Shoemaker) Ekman and was one of 12 children. He married Roseann Sonczalla of Ladysmith, Wisconsin, in 1952. In 1962, the couple settled with their children in Midwest City, Oklahoma where he was employed by Lear Siegler. In 1976, Bob and Roseann moved to Lubbock, Texas where they studied Bible and graduated from the Sunset School of Preaching. More than anything Bob wanted his life to make a positive difference. To that end he was proud to have served his country in the United States Army in World War II, and humanity as an evangelist for Church of Christ congregations in the U.S. and Canada. Bob moved to Altus in 2011.
He is survived by son, Dave Ekman of Rapid City, South Dakota; daughter, Denise (Tim) Hulst of Prior Lake, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Nathan Largent, Jennifer Boudewyns, Tara Chavarria, and Adam Hulst; eight great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sisters, Greta Davis and Tiny Trainor. Preceding him in death were his wife of 55 years, Roseann; grandson, Bo Ekman; and nine siblings.
The family is especially grateful to Joyce Meckle, his partner and caregiver of the last 12 years, helping “Dad” live at home as long as possible. Inurnment with military honors rendered by the United States Army will take place later at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley, next to Roseann.
