Robert Samuel “Bob” Johnson, 70, Altus, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Jackson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, April 7, 2014 at Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Robert Samuel Johnson was born on September 12, 1943 to Thomas William and Linda (Mann) Johnson in Fork Union, Virginia. He graduated from Culpepper, Virginia High School in 1963. Robert married Betty Lou (Tidwell) Smith on September 19, 1969 in Homestead, Florida. He enlisted with the United States Air Force on April 25, 1966 and retired April 30, 1986. During his twenty years of service to our country, he served in Vietnam, earned numerous medals, and retired as a Master Sergeant. After retirement from the Air Force, he worked civil service as a Fuel Lab Supervisor with the LRS for the following nineteen years. Bob loved his part time job of “laying rock” as can be found on several houses and buildings around Altus. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, golf, and playing softball. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jerry Max Smith; one brother, Thomas William Johnson, Jr.; one sister, Linda Wray; and two brothers-in-law, Bill Wray and Jim Kimball. Robert is survived by his wife, Betty, of the home; one daughter, Deborah Gulbrandsen and husband, Carl, of Altus, Oklahoma; one son, Ricky O. Smith, of Altus, Oklahoma; two sisters, Ann Bussard and husband, John, of Mars Hill, North Carolina, and Janet Kimball of Boise, Idaho; nine grandchildren, Deanna Dolan, John Walker and wife, Margie, Stacey Lynn Ford and husband, Jeff, Kelly Gulbrandsen, Ricky Allen Smith and wife, Lauren, Shane Smith and wife, Cindy, Connor Smith, Gannon Smith, and Pendah Smith; six great-grandchildren, Ava Dolan, Addison Dolan, Claire Campbell, Byron Ford, Sarah Ford, and Adam Smith; numerous nieces, nephews, family, and friends; and a beloved dog and special friend, Maggie. The family will host a visitation for family and friends from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m., Sunday, April 6, 2014 at Kincannon Funeral Home. Memorial contributions in honor of Bob Johnson may be made to Operation C.A.R.E., 219 W. Commerce, Altus, Oklahoma 73521.
