Robert Ernest “Bob” Stokes, Sr., 72, formerly of Altus, Oklahoma, peacefully passed away at Hospice of the Valley in Surprise, Arizona (near the home of his “Arizona family”) on Thursday, October 6, 2022. A memorial service will be held to honor his life on Saturday, November 5, 2022 at 10:00 am at Kincannon Funeral Home with his nephew, Father Jason Stokes, of Pennsylvania officiating.
Bob was born on October 14, 1949 in York, Pennsylvania to Ernest B. and Mary L. (Anderson) Stokes. Bob graduated high school with a full baseball scholarship, but opted to enlist in the United States Air Force and faithfully served his country for six years, then chose to separate from the military after his deployment to Vietnam. He later married his first wife, and to this union, two sons were born, Robert Ernest “Bobby” Stokes Jr. and Kevin M. Stokes. He moved to Altus in 1970 and became a member of the First Baptist Church, the Elks Lodge, and began his career as an automotive mechanic at Skinner Motor Company. Bob quickly rose to the position of an ASE Certified Automotive Master Technician and transferred to Johnny Roberts Dodge in Altus before retiring. Bob married his second wife, Linda Caroll King in 1989 in Altus. They shared 23 years together before her death in 2012. Anyone who knew him, knows he enjoyed GOLF (LOVED it), Coke, salted pretzels (shipped to him in Oklahoma from his sister Ginny, back in Pennsylvania), chocolate, and his “fur babies”, Lexi Ann and Snickers Stokes.
His parents, Ernest and Mary; brothers, Paul and Frank Stokes; sister, Patricia Godfrey; wife, Linda Caroll (King) Stokes; daughter-in-law, Alyson Creed Jenkins; and “fur baby”, Lexi Ann Stokes preceded him in death. Those left to honor Bob’s memory are his children, Robert Ernest “Bobby” Stokes Jr., Kevin M. Stokes and wife, Misty, Robert A. Jenkins and wife, Louisa, and Larry D. Jenkins; grandchildren, Tyler, Colin, Dalton, and Kylee Stokes, Genevieve and husband, Afan, and Anderson Jenkins; great grandchildren, Blake Rose and Eugene Afan; his siblings, Carolyn Shoop, Virginia “Ginny” Chronister, and Rosemary Stokes-Bolon; his “fur baby” Snickers Stokes; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, friends, and extended family.
In lieu of floral condolences, please consider making a donation to Hospice of the Valley Arizona (
