Roger L. Duckett

d. June 8, 2015

Roger L. Duckett, 64, of Altus, passed away on Monday, June 8, 2015 at the English Village Manor. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 13, 2015 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Jerry Shaffer, Clint Burns and Bob Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Roger was born on September 24, 1951 to Grady and Jewell (Morris) Duckett in Olton, TX. His dad’s career took the family to many different locations during his young life in North Central and West Texas. He started elementary school in Byers, Texas, and attended elementary school in West Texas. He attended junior high in Plainview, Texas, until his family moved to Altus, OK, in 1966 where he completed junior high and attended Altus High School. His love for music and playing a trumpet was expanded by becoming a member of “That Altus Band” where he was actively involved in all special groups in the band. He graduated in 1970 from Altus High School with honors. He and his family were founding members of Park Lane Assembly of God. He was a very active member in the youth group which opened a Friday and Saturday night Christian hangout for youth called “The Lighthouse.” This love of working with others carried on to Stillwater where he attended college at Oklahoma State University and was an active member of Chi Alpha, a Christian college organization. Roger’s love of computer science lead him through many different stages in the technology revolution. He was a computer operator/programmer in Oklahoma City for Hertz and several medical entities. He later moved back to Altus and worked for Telos in Lawton and then transferred to Ft. Wayne, IN. As his career continued, he moved to Florida. There he worked for Honeywell and Siemens Stromberg. He desired to move closer to home to be around his family. He then decided to try his hand at truck driving. He enjoyed driving, traveling, and sight-seeing so this was a perfect late in life job for him. He became a long-haul trucker across the United States. Besides traveling and sight-seeing, he loved reading, listening to music, playing music enough that he learned to play various other instruments besides his trumpet, working puzzles, riding motorcycles, and playing games with his family. Roger is preceded in death by his mother, Jewell Duckett. Survivors include his father, Grady Duckett of Altus; his only sibling, his sister, Teresa McLaughlin and husband, Larry, of Altus; his two nephews, Jarrod McLaughlin of Lawton, OK, and Jentry McLaughlin and wife, Paige, of Sapulpa, OK; and numerous cousins and friends. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Roger’s honor to the charity of your choice.
