Roger Philip Cantley, 72, Altus, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at his home. Memorial services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, February 23, 2014 at the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Steve Harbour officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Veterans Section at the Altus City Cemetery. Services are under the care of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Roger was born on May 23, 1941 in Columbus, Ohio to Homer Humbert and Lucille (Collette) Cantley. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana State University and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Air Force. He married Nicki Virginia Shacklette on October 23, 1976 in Woodbridge, Virginia. He was an instructor pilot at Craig Air Force Base in Alabama for six years and then served in Vietnam as a combat pilot. Roger also served as a C-5 Galaxy Transport pilot at Travis Air Force Base in California. Roger retired as a Major on December 1, 1984. Roger then went to work for Flight Safety at Altus Air Force Base for the C-5, C-141 and KC-135 aircraft before retiring after many years. Roger enjoyed golf and reading. He loved taking care of his dogs and was a very generous guy who went the extra mile for people. Roger was preceded in death by his wife in 1997 and his mother. Survivors include three sons, Steven Cantley of Altus, OK, Robert Cantley and wife, Heather, of Virginia and Glenn Cantley of Huntsville, AL; a daughter, Marye Whitla of Australia; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Sean, Stephen and Brian; his father, Homer Cantley and wife, Ruth, of LaPorte, IN; a sister, Barbara Hartman and husband, Wallace, of Indianapolis, IN; and a brother, Jim Antrim and wife, Julie, of LaPorte, IN.
