Roy G. Holt, 67, Altus, passed away Tuesday morning, September 4, 2012 at the Clinton VA Center. Funeral services have been scheduled for 11:00 am Friday, September 7, 2012 at Kincannon Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow in the Veteran’s Section of the Altus City Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Roy Gene Holt was born December 30, 1944 in Altus, Oklahoma to Thomas Guy and Myrtle (Williams) Holt. He married Evie Prestridge May 11, 1971 in Vernon, Texas. He served his country in the United States Army, Navy and Navy Reserves. While in the Navy, he was an aircraft mechanic. He served in Vietnam and received the Vietnam Service Medal with bronze star, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Navy Unit Commendation Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal, among other medals and commendations. He was a brick mason by trade. Roy was a member of the Baptist Church in Altus as well as a member of the VFW Post 398. He loved to go fishing, write, sing songs and play his guitar. His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and family. Roy is preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Guy Holt and Myrtle Williams Holt, a brother, James Holt, a sister, Shirley Ann Smith, a brother-in-law, Michael “Smitty” Smith, a sister, Darlene “Dart” Evans, a brother-in-law, Dinky Evans, a brother-in-law, Tommy Sims, and brother, J.C. Holt. He is survived by his wife, Evie Lorene (Prestridge) Holt, of the home; six children, Roy Holt, Jr. of Texas, Tommy Joe Holt and wife, Michelle, of Blair, OK, Donna J. Holt of Texas, Teresa Hayes and husband, David, of Oklahoma City, OK, Shirley Surles of Altus, OK, and Mattie Underwood and husband, Tony, of Mustang, OK; twelve grandchildren, Jessica, Christopher, Delana, Shawn, Justina, Rechael, Cindy, Heather, Ashley, Nicholas, Shawna and Leigh; seven great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jacky Holt and wife, Amy, of Georgia, and Johnny Holt of Missouri; seven sisters; Betty Farrow of Binger, OK, Thelma Sanborne and husband, Jim, of Florida, Lawanda Rogers and husband, Billy, of Altus, OK, Francine Morris and husband, Shawn, of Altus, OK, Lynett Mullis and husband, Sherman, of Oklahoma City, OK, Valarie Holt of Altus, OK, and Janet Collier and husband, Fred, of Altus, OK; and several nieces, nephews and friends. The Holt family will greet friends from 6pm to 8pm Thursday in the Kincannon Funeral Home Gathering Room. Additional parking for the funeral Friday is available in Kincannon’s back parking lot, Best Western Hotel to the South and Western Sizzlin’ Steakhouse to the North.
