Ruth May Starkey, 85, Altus, passed away on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at English Village Manor. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Prince of Peace Catholic Church with Father Wickersham officiating. Services are under the care of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Ruth was born on December 27, 1929 in Kimball, Nebraska to James and Emma (Hopson) Mead. At an early age, Ruth's dad passed away and her mom remarried Leroy Merryfield. Ruth married Robert Starkey in 1949 in Imperial County, California. After attending college, Ruth worked as a nurse's aide for several years. She was actively involved in the Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her father, James Albin Mead, her mother and stepfather, Emma and Leroy Merryfield, a daughter, Theresa Starkey, a granddaughter, Dawna, and a great grandson, Ryan. She is survived by her daughter, Linda Sanders and husband, Donald, of Quitman, Texas; three sons, Robert R. Starkey and wife, Dorothy, of Houston, Texas, Ronald L. Starkey and wife, Anna, of Rochester, Washington, and Richard A. Starkey and wife, Maria, of Altus, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, nineteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Betty Peisner and Pat Thompson; and a brother, James Merryfield.
