Sharon McKenna, age 62, passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2013 in Altus, Oklahoma. Memorial services will be 10:30 AM Monday, April 22, 2013 at the Quartz Mountain State Park, Shelter #2. Cremation services are under the care of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Sharon Kay McGlothlin was born on January 16, 1951 in La Junta, Colorado to Clay and Mary McGlothlin. She graduated from high school in Colorado Springs, Colorado, and subsequently received her Bachelor’s Degree in elementary education from the University of Northern Colorado. She taught in the Falcon School District near Colorado Springs before returning to school at the University of Denver, where she received her Master’s Degree in library science. This led to her career as a librarian, initially for the US Army and then the US Air Force. She was passionate about all of her library work but particularly enjoyed her overseas assignments in Germany and England. She worked most recently as a librarian for the Altus Air Force Base from 2006 to 2010 before retiring due to health concerns. Sharon married Patrick McKenna while working in Germany. Both were history buffs who thoroughly enjoyed living and traveling throughout Europe. One of the highlights of a visit to London was a chance meeting with Dwight D. Eisenhower’s personal secretary. Sharon demonstrated compassion toward everyone in her life including the four-legged friends that found their way into her home and heart. She will be remembered for the kindness she showed others even throughout her own illness. Her parents and husband, Patrick McKenna, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a sister, Patricia McGlothlin of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and a brother, Douglas McGlothlin of Lexington, Kentucky. Your cards and prayers are appreciated. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
