Shirley J. DeForest, 89, Altus, passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at the Plantation Village Nursing Home. Graveside services will be 9:00 AM Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Restlawn Cemetery. Inurnment is under the care of the Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Shirley J. Thielker was born on March 4, 1927 in Poughkeepsie, New York to August F. and Wilhelmina L. (Griswold) Thielker. After high school, she attended Cornell University and graduated with her Bachelor's Degree. Shirley married William J. DeForest, Jr. on May 27, 1951 in Sylvan Lake, New York. He preceded her in death on April 16, 2006. She worked as an extension educator and teacher before retiring as a bank manager. Shirley was of the Catholic faith and enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening and handicrafts.
Her husband, daughter, Carol, and parents, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Rose E. Bell and husband, David, and Patricia L. Church, who died on March 17, 2017, and her husband, John; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
