Ted W. Kincannon, 82, long time Altus business owner, passed away Thursday, February 12, 2015. Celebration of Life services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, February 16, 2015 at Kincannon Funeral Home. The family will hold a private burial. Teddy Wayne Kincannon was born September 29, 1932 in Olustee, Oklahoma to Robert E. "Bob" and Lora Jewel (Boatright) Kincannon. His family farmed and ranched in the Olustee area throughout his school years. Ted graduated from Olustee High School in 1950. He dated Marie Sorrells Phillips throughout Junior High and High School and the two were married May 21, 1950 at the Methodist Church in Olustee, Oklahoma. Ted joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard, 45th Infantry Brigade in the Summer of 1950 and was deployed to Korea. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in the Summer of 1952. Upon returning to the states, he worked in the insurance business in Altus, Duncan, Wichita Falls and Alexandria, Louisiana. In 1961 the family moved to Lawton where he went to work for the Sprague Family in the furniture business. He eventually bought their business and built a new furniture store in 1963. In 1968, he partnered with Ed Wiginton and the two families moved to Altus to establish Capri Home Furnishings in downtown Altus. Ted eventually bought Ed's part of the business and moved Capri to the Altus Plaza Shopping Center in 1976. He built a new Broyhill Showcase Gallery store on North main in 1983. Capri Mini and Boat Storage was built shortly after that. The furniture store was closed out in 1996, the building was remodeled, and Kincannon Funeral Home was established in March of 1997. Ted was a member and Past President of the Altus Noon Lions, the Elks, and the American Legion. He was a long time member of the Elm and Hudson Church of Christ, serving as Deacon. Ted enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, golfing, Oklahoma University sports and traveling in motor homes. He and his family and friends enjoyed their Hicks Mountain cabin for many years. He and Marie also built a home in Ruidoso, New Mexico and enjoyed the summer mountain climate and their friends for several years. Ted is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Jewel Kincannon; sister, Geraldine Watson; and mother and father-in-law, Ralph and Corrie Phillips. He is survived by his wife, Marie, of Altus, OK; son, Gary Kincannon and wife, Tracy, of Altus, OK; daughters, Beverly Kincannon of Clinton, OK and Phyllis Noble of Santa Barbara, CA; six grandchildren, Brandon Lee and wife, Stacy, of Clinton, OK, Keely Pryor and husband, Brandon, of Oklahoma City, OK, Gavin Powers and wife, Katy, of Stillwater, OK, Grant Kincannon and wife, Elisabeth, of Altus, OK, Morgan Noble of Santa Barbara, CA, Kade Kincannon of Burleson, Texas and his fiancée, Caitlin Anderson, of Altus, OK; twelve great-grandchildren, Jacob, Madison, Teytum, Leyla, Morgan, Bennett, Landry, Maddox, Klein, Toby, Brogan and Piper. The Kincannon family will greet friends Sunday afternoon from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Westview Boys Home in Hollis, Oklahoma, the Tipton's Children's Home in Tipton, Oklahoma or the charity of your choice. Additional parking for the service is available behind the funeral home, Days Inn to the South or Western Sizzlin’ to the North.
