Thelma Mae Busby Blakemore, longtime resident of Southwest Oklahoma, passed from this life, into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, December 29, 2024, just 23 days shy of her 83rd birthday. The family will greet friends from 6:00 – 8:00 PM on Tuesday, January 7, 2025. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, January 8th, in the Kincannon Memorial Chapel with Brother Joe Poulin officiating. Burial will immediately follow at the Blair Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Born on January 21, 1942, in Prairie Grove, Arkansas to Rev. Leonard James and Beatrice Leona (Lester) Wright, Thelma was one of eleven siblings. In her formative years, her father was a traveling minister and migrant farm worker. They traveled all over Arkansas, Oklahoma, and Texas, eventually making their home in Jackson County. She met a boy from Martha, Carl D. White, and they married. Together they had six children before his passing in 1971. She married Dewey “Junior” Busby, Jr. and they shared their love, raising children, and enjoying grandchildren until he passed away in 2008. Thelma later married Bobby Blakemore, sharing their retirement together until his death in 2018.
Thelma was an avid quilter and enjoyed all arts and crafts. Christmas was her favorite time of the year; it is fitting that she went home during her most adored season. Thelma’s love for the LORD was evident in many aspects of her life. Her steadfast faith remained even while burying three husbands. Thelma was a true servant and often opened her home to others. She had a tender heart for the homeless, always spreading the love of Jesus to others with kindness and sharing whatever she had. She enjoyed studying her bible and attending church at Trinity Holiness east of Blair. Thelma adored her family and time spent with any of them was treasured.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl White, Junior Busby, and Bobby Blakemore; parents, Leonard and Beatrice; and siblings, Raymond Wright, Joe Wright, Truman Wright, Velma Faye Tidmore, Mary Leona Stayton, Lillie Belle Baker, and Minnie Ruth Grinder.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Carl James White, Roger Dale White, Mary Beth Rollinson, Thelma Marie Peters, Patricia Ann Shearer, and Diania Kay Allen; a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great great-grandchildren; siblings, Freddie Wright, Shirley Alvord, and Linda Lou Coppage; niece and caretaker, Carolyn DaVoult; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
