Thelma Martin, 94, formerly of Altus, passed away Tuesday, August 26, 2014 in Oklahoma City, OK. Funeral services have been scheduled for 3 p.m. Saturday, August 30, 2014 at the Altus Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Andrew Young officiating. Burial will follow in the McKnight Cemetery under the direction of Kincannon Funeral Home. Thelma May Carrick was born November 16, 1919 to John Addison and Mary (Dave) Carrick in Wildcat, Oklahoma. Thelma attended and graduated High School in Gould, Oklahoma. She attended Mangum Jr. College for one year then attended Beauty School in Altus where she became an instructor. Thelma and Elmo P. Martin married on February 14, 1949 in Childress, Texas. She was a member of the Lion’s Club Auxiliary; AARP and a Jackson County Memorial Hospital Volunteer in Altus. Thelma was a member of the Altus Church of the Nazarene, where she served in the children’s nursery for over 30 years. Needless to say, she loved children. Thelma enjoyed visiting with family and friends and especially loved the babies – whom she called “the little ones.” She also enjoyed preparing church meals, her specialty being deviled eggs and chicken and dumplings. She was always ready with a smile for everyone. Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Bonnie Shelby; brothers, Floyd Carrick, Albert Carrick, J.A. Carrick and son-in-law Richard Krepp. Thelma leaves behind daughters, Mary Paulette Robillard, and husband Richard of OKC, OK, Bonita Fern Krepp, of Ephrata, PA; and son James Fred Emmert and wife Dulan of Elgin, OK; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two brothers, G.D. Carrick and wife Virginia and Leon Carrick and wife Jean both of Hollis, OK; as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family. The Martin family will greet friends Friday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Kincannon Funeral Home.
