Tom D. Winchester, 85, Altus, passed away Monday, January 4, 2021 at his home. A Celebration of Life service will be 2:00 PM Friday, June 11, 2021 at the Grace United Methodist Church with Rev. Bruce Davis officiating. Cremation has been provided by Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
Tom David Winchester was born April 1, 1935 in Texarkana, Arkansas to Dr. C.L. and Flora (Huddleston) Winchester. He graduated from Texarkana High School with the Class of 1953; attended one year at the University of Arkansas and one year at Texas A & M, attaining an Associate’s Degree in Aircraft Maintenance. He married Billie S. Bullington November 30, 1956 in Texarkana, Arkansas and to this union two sons, Mark and Steven were born. Tom entered the United States Air Force in March of 1957 and retired, following 23 years of service, in October of 1980 as a Senior Master Sergeant. While in the Air Force, Tom served at bases around the world, including two tours in Vietnam. He served honorably and with distinction, and his family supported and was proud of his service. The Winchesters were long time active members of the Grace United Methodist Church. Tom and Billie were also very active with the Special Military Active Retired Travelers group (SMART) who traveled across the country in motor homes - the caravan often being 15 or 20 strong. Tom was an active member of the Lions Club for over 30 years. He was always tinkering on motors, enjoyed reading, and especially liked riding his mower while doing yard work.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. C.L. and Flora Winchester; a brother, Pat Winchester; and a sister, Dora Pope. He is survived by his wife, Billie; two sons, Mark Winchester and wife, Debbie; and Steven Winchester and wife, Lora; seven grandchildren, Sydnie Stambaugh and husband, Will, and their children, Gideon and Gemma; Scott, Harrison and Lydia Winchester; Deneka Cain and husband, Mark, and their children, Delaney, Ella and Loralei; Caelie Winchester-Davidson and husband, Mike and their daughter, Molly; and Camille Winchester; two sisters, Letha Musgrove and Crystal Brewington; a special niece, Carla Myane and husband, Ben; and many friends.
