Vera S. Carter, 101, Altus, passed away on Monday, November 29, 2010 in Brooks, Georgia. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Saturday at the Altus City Cemetery with Dr. Jeff Moore officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of the Kincannon Funeral Home. Vera was born on June 16, 1909 in Duke, Oklahoma to William G. and Katie Cobb Scarbrough. She married Thurman J. Carter on January 10, 1926 in Mangum, Oklahoma. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church in Altus. Her husband and a son, Thurman William Carter, preceded her in death. Survivors include six grandchildren, Janice Kay Pennington of Montana, Lee Ann Collins of Brooks, Georgia, Mike Carter of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Jim Carter of San Antonio, Texas, and Teresa Carter and Andrew Carter, both of Houston, Texas; eight great-great grandchildren, Christy Murphy of Milano, Texas, Regan Brown of Sharpsburg, Georgia, Jeff Carter of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kelsi and Austin Carter, both of Hendersonville, Tennessee, and Jennifer, Caitlyn, and Sam Carter, all of San Antonio, Texas; two great-great-great grandchildren, Conner and Cooper Brown, both of Sharpsburg, Georgia; and a niece, Rae Graham of Altus.
