Virginia McDaniel Ray, 93, Altus, died Monday, February 24, 2014 after a long life. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, February 28, 2014 at the Altus City Cemetery. Rev. Doug Altom will be officiating. Services have been entrusted to Kincannon Funeral Home. Virginia Ballew was born August 3, 1920 to Bryant and Mable (Pike) Ballew in Healdton, Oklahoma. As the first born, Virginia had many responsibilities. She worked hard and graduated from Healdton High School. On August 19, 1939 she married John F. McDaniel in Healdton, Oklahoma. Mr. McDaniel preceded her in death in 1969. Virginia later married Don Ray, who preceded her in death in 1989. The McDaniel’s lived for many years in Clinton, Oklahoma where she raised 2 children and enjoyed spending time with her family and participating in church activities. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Pink Ladies Hospital Volunteers while living in Clinton. After moving to Altus she became a member of the First Baptist Church and was also a JCMH Pink Lady. Virginia enjoyed reading her Danielle Steel and Nicholas Sparks novels, watching her “stories” (especially the Young and the Restless), playing Bridge with her friends, Aggravation with her family, and playing games with her grandchildren. She was especially attached to her little black Dachshund, Molly. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; first husband, John F. McDaniel; second husband, Don Ray; son-in-law, Richard Wing; grandson, Wes Schmidt; great grandson, Richard Schmidt; sister, Vivian Szymanski; brother-in-law, Walter Szymanski and sister-in-law, Ina Ballew. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Wing of Altus, OK; son, John McDaniel, Jr. of Snyder, TX; brother, James B. Ballew and wife Nancy of Franklin, NC; five grandchildren, Rhonda Konley and husband Tom, Scott Wing and wife Debbie, John McDaniel III, Matthew McDaniel and David McDaniel; seven great grandchildren, Nicole Finley and husband Jason, Cassandra Stebbins, Virginia Schmitt, Jordon, Rebecca, Samantha and Ricky Wing; three great great grandchildren, Noah and Wyatt Stebbins and Cricket Narron.
