William "Bill" Cox, 80, Blair, passed away surrounded by his family Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City. A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at Kincannon Funeral Home with Dr. Karen Drake officiating. Cremation services have been provided by Kincannon Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
William Henry Cox was born April 12, 1938 in Hanna, Oklahoma to Homer M. and Helen V. (Woodruff) Cox. He graduated from Calvin High School, Calvin, Oklahoma in 1956. He entered the United States Air Force in June of 1957 and married Shirley Drake on October 24, 1960 in Elk City, Oklahoma. Bill was honorably discharged following 12 years of service as SSGT on October 18, 1968 and began working for civil service at Altus Air Force Base working in the housing department. He retired from civil service following 20 years of service on April 19, 1993. Bill was of the Christian faith; He enjoyed playing basketball as a youth and in the air force; calf roping in play days, fishing, camping and golf.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents; a young sister and two infant brothers. He is survived by his wife, Shirley of the home; two daughters, Paula Wilkie and husband, Benny of Sapulpa, Oklahoma; Gaye Root and husband, Dr. John Root of Altus, Oklahoma; one son, William Henry Cox, Jr. and wife Jill of Blair, Oklahoma; one brother, Cecil Howard Cox and wife, Loretta of Crowder, Oklahoma; two sisters, Carol James and husband, Dan; and Peggy Cox all from Krebs, Oklahoma. He was “Papa Cox” to seven grandchildren, Melissa and husband, Jay of Moore, Oklahoma; Joey of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Mandy and husband, Chad of Greenwood, Indiana; Tara and husband, Jason of Rockport, Texas; Cody from Altus, Oklahoma; Casey and wife, Lacey of Blair, Oklahoma; and Brylee of Blair, Oklahoma; He was, also, “Papa Cox” to 20 great grandchildren and Wild Bill to many, many, wonderful friends.
